Xiaomi’s Newly Filed Patent Could Mean Fingerprint Scanning Technology For The Mi 5

Similar to Apple’s latest iPhone 6 handset, it would appear that Xiaomi is looking to place the fingerprint scanning technology across the home button for their upcoming smartphones. Recently, the Chinese manufacturer filed a patent that would allow the use to develop and release smartphones that contain the fingerprint scanning technology. This will allow consumers to easily unlock their handset while also keeping it secured from the hands of strangers. The first smartphone to possibly receive this new technology could be the Xiaomi Mi 5 though details on the handset are still fairly scarce.

Popular Chinese manufacturer Xiaomi has applied for a patent based around new fingerprint technology within their upcoming handsets. The patent was registered for this technology to be implemented within their smartphones physical touch buttons though it would most likely mean the main home button of the handset. While we haven’t seen this particular technology used before within Xiaomi’s line of smartphones, it would work very similar to Apple’s iPhone 6. According to the patent, Xiaomi will implement the fingerprint scanning technology with the home button and cover it with a thin piece of glass. Details from the patent requested by Xiaomi can be found right down below.

“The device comprises a bottom fingerprint sensors and optical sensor provided in the terminal equipment of the cover glass; fingerprint identification circuit connected fingerprint sensor for fingerprint recognition sensor and the fingerprint information analysis and processing, obtain fingerprint analysis ; host processor, and an optical sensor and fingerprint identification circuit connections for the monitored optical sensor light information received to determine whether cover glass touch button operation; identity authentication based on fingerprint analysis results obtained fingerprint identification circuit.”

This could be exciting news if you’re a big fan of Xiaomi’s line of smartphones, but it’s unclear just which handset will be granted the technology. High expectations are leading to Xiaomi’s upcoming Mi 5 which is the successor of the Xiaomi Mi 4. However, news has been scarce as to just when the Mi 5 will officially be announced. Just last month we reported on an analyst suggesting the Mi 5 will not be revealed until near the end of this year. Regardless, the Xiaomi Mi 5 is believed to be the next flagship smartphone for the company containing significant upgrades from its predecessor. With all that said, it would make sense to implement the new fingerprint scanning technology onto their latest flagship handset.
