Samsung Electronics is Leading the Tech Industry in Patent Filing for Autonomous Vehicles

所以, it is in no way surprising to hear that the South Korea-born megacompany is leading the tech industry in the submission of patent for new innovations.

The company earlier this year also earned the most number of patent applications for the wearables department. While a lot of these ideas has not been made into reality, the patent trove of Samsung provides a peek into what the future has in store for consumer technology.

SmartUp Legal (通过 Forbes) revealed that Samsung has submitted a total of 510 filings in the previous ten years alone, all of which are intended to be integrated with a future Galaxy car. Most of the patent filings are on the battery business, which we all know, Samsung is a proud manufacturer and supplier.

同时, Google is at the second place with a little over 300 patent filings for its own autonomous cars that have been roaming the streets of California and 得克萨斯州. 苹果, which is still being rumoured to be manufacturing its own iCar submitted 83 patent filings over the same ten-year period.

但, perhaps the most surprising is the appearance of Microsoft on the list. While the aforementioned tech companies are openly – or in Apple’s case, tentatively – dipping their toes into the business, the software company has not expressed any interest in the autonomous car business. At least, not on the hardware side. Microsoft has so far submitted 222 patent for a Windows car.

This information does not guarantee that Microsoft or Apple or Samsung, for that matter, will be introducing their own versions of the car of the future. 宁, these filings are an assurance that these companies are, at least, considering the idea.
